Rangers come to life; Elyria drops Eagles


NORTH RIDGEVILLE — The Rangers from North Ridgeville outdueled the Rangers from Lakewood, 42-28 Friday night in non-conference action.
The game was closer than the final score shows as North Ridgeville sealed the game in the fourth quarter.
North Ridgeville improved to 1-1 and will travel to Lodi to take on Cloverleaf next Friday.

Elyria 10, North Olmsted 6: The Pioneers had the Eagles’ number for the second-straight season as Elyria won its first game of the year, defeating North Olmsted to hand the Eagles their first loss.
Elyria is now 1-1 and will host Elyria Catholic next Friday. North Olmsted fell to 1-1 and will travel to Lakewood next Friday.

Westlake 14, Bay 6: The Demons defense stayed tough, allowing just six points to the Rocket after last week’s shutout over North Ridgeville.
Westlake improved to 2-0, while Bay dropped to 0-2. Westlake will play at Rocky River next week, while Bay travels to Lake County to play Kirtland.

Keystone 42, Chippewa 20: The Wildcats didn’t need 62 points as last year’s 62-56 shootout win between the two schools, but they did put up 42 points, taking it to the Chipps in Wayne County. In just two games against Chippewa, Keystone has scored 106 points.
Keystone evened its mark at 1-1 going into next week’s game at Firelands. Chippewa fell to 0-2.

Rittman 33, Brookside 14: The Indians were too much for the Cardinals as Rittman came in and spoiled Brookside’s home-field advantage.
Rittman improved to 2-0, while Brookside dropped to 1-1. Brookside will host Toledo Woodward next Friday.

Columbia 41, South Central 14: The Raiders nabbed their first win of the season, routing the Trojans from Greenwich on their home field.
Columbia improved to 1-1, while South Central fell to 0-2. Columbia will travel to Geauga County to play Newbury next Friday.

Huron 40, Norwalk 20: The Tigers handled the Truckers with ease, routing Norwalk in the last time these schools will play each other.
Huron improved to 2-0, while Norwalk dropped to 0-2.
Huron will play the other Norwalk team — defending state champions St. Paul next Friday. Norwalk travels to play Perkins.

Western Reserve 42, Margaretta 12: The Roughriders turned up the heat in the second half, scoring most of their points in a 30-point rout of the Polar Bears.
Western Reserve improved to 2-0 and will play at Creston Norwayne next Friday.

McDonald 35, Oberlin 6: The Phoenix dropped their second-straight game on the road, falling to the Blue Devils in Trumbull County.
Oberlin (0-2) will host Akron Kenmore next Friday in its home opener. McDonald improved to 2-0.
