Girls Soccer: Shoregals capture first SWC title

For the first time in school history, the Avon Lake girls soccer squad captured its first Southwestern Conference title with a resounding 4-3 victory.
Behind Emily O'Conner's hat-trick performance, the Shoregals scored three goals in the second half after the game was tied 1-1 at halftime. The Avon Lake freshman helped bring home her team’s first conference title.
Emily O’Conner set up for a shot about 25 yards out from the right side and ripped a shot that carried to the upper-left 90 past goalie Sarah Loeser to cut the North Olmsted lead to 3-2 for her first goal of the night.
O’Conner’s second goal came off a beauty of a set-play when senior Morgan Srail went head-over-heels on the thrown-in from the 20-yard line and found O’Conner in front of the net.
O’Conner let the ball skip off the back of her head and off the far post with 18:43 left in the game to knot the score at 3-3 giving the Shoregals new life in their conference quest.
With 15:10 remaining in the game, O'Conner clinched the conference title with the game-winner.
