Opening night for boys hoops
Friday night marked the opening of the 2009-10 boys basketball season.
Many teams got off to good start, but one team fell on some bad luck.
Avon lost a heart-breaker to Westlake on a game-winning 3-pointer by the Demons Paul Appel.
R.J. Kauffman led the Eagles with 19 points, while Mike Mingo added 16 points.
Admiral King, who went 20-0 last season, began its season with a 72-63 loss to Akron East. The Admirals were without Malcolm Barnett, who suffered a fractured wrist in the preseason.
Theron Nelson led the Admirals with 17 points, while Gary Donald chipped in with 11 points and nine rebounds.
Keystone got off to a good start with an impressive 76-53 victory against Firelands. Caleb Schillace led the Wildcats with 19 points, Sam Bailosky, Ryan Clement and Caleb Wagner finished in double figures with 13, 11 and 11 points respectively.
Nick Clark and and Riley Moore each had 17 points as Midview defeated Elyria Catholic on the road.
Joe Januzzi, Andrew Kubuski and Sergio Montanez all scored nine points to lead the Panthers.
In Milan, the Edison Chargers defeated the New London Wildcats 72-59. Taylor Emody had a monster game for the Chargers with a game-high 17 points and 13 rebounds.
Cotlyn Grant added 15 points, while Mike Yost and Ryan Reber each had 11 points.
